General English II, as a teaching group in Department of Applied Foreign Language Studies, made up of 15 members, including 1 professor, 6 associate professors, and 8 lecturers, undertakes college English teaching for all the non-English majors of sophomores and provides them with three categories of courses, namely English for Academic Purpose, Extended English Courses and College English III and IV for students of primary and secondary level, with an aim to improve their English comprehensive capacity of speaking, listening, reading, writing and translation, and help them to get prepared for future career, social and academic communication, to meet both the individual and social needs.

The group functions as a connecting link between the preceding English learning and the following vocational practice or further study needs. The group adopts the method of Content Based Instruction, upholds the student-oriented idea, and applies individual instruction design to different students. The three categories are presented with special focus to meet students’ practical needs. English for Academic Purpose and Extended English Courses are designed for students of the third level. Related courses are integrated with certain specialties and cultural background knowledge. So far, this group has prepared and offered A Selective Reading of English Newspapers and Periodicals, Business English Writing, English to Chinese Translation, Introduction to English Speaking Countries, Appreciation of English Movies, Business Cross-Cultural Communication, Business English, Management English, Practical English for Professional Career, Financial English, Legal English and Introduction to Foreign Audit Supervision System. Some of these courses are selected to open for students in every different semester. College English III and IV are designed for students of primary and secondary level, whose English proficiency is comparatively low and needs to be further enhanced after the study of College English I and II.

The course design of General English II is based on the national trend of college English reform and the reality of course construction in Nanjing Audit University. The core objective of this group is to fully abide by the language teaching principles and consider the needs of English learning and social service in our university. The following features are presented concerning class organization, course content and teaching ideas: 1) teamwork in teaching preparation. Syllabus, activity design and class organization are under group discussion; 2) combination of theory and practice. Teachers are encouraged to carry out academic research which is mutually beneficial with teaching practice; 3) combination of the classroom teaching and the extracurricular activities of English. To lay a sound foundation in class and develop various activities after class; 4) considering both the method and its effect. To evaluate the teaching effect with mid-tem examination, CET 4 and 6, and related English contests.
